On June 24, a joint meeting of the General Council and the Supreme Advisory Council of the World Peoples Assembly took place in Moscow. The agenda focused on the strategic development of the Assembly until 2030 and preparations for the World Public Assembly, which will be held on September 20-21, 2025 in Moscow.
Opening the meeting, the Assembly Secretary-General,
Andrey Belyaninov, recalled that since May 28, the Assembly has been officially operating under a new name. The new name, the World Peoples Assembly, reflects its renewed status, expanding geography and increased responsibility for the cause of uniting peoples.
Summing up the outcomes of the General Assembly, he outlined key proposals:
- to launch of the “World Peoples Assembly Ambassador” program to expand international representation;
- to form of Regional International (continental) Committees of Representative Offices;
- to create of a unified media structure of the Assembly with the participation of partners;
- to increase the activity of the World Peoples Youth Assembly;
- to establish of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations;
and other important initiatives.
Speaking about the World Public Assembly, he stressed that this event is a landmark stage in the history of the organization.
Svetlana Smirnova, Chairman of the General Council, noted that the Assembly is open to cooperation with government and public structures, the academic community, business, youth and religious organizations.
The participants from more than 100 countries, including the countries of Eurasia, Africa and Latin America Assembly have confirmed the international support of the Assembly. Negotiations with international organizations, including integration associations and the UN Alliance of Civilizations are ongoing.
Svetlana Smirnova spoke about the preparations for the upcoming event. Within the framework of five main areas (tracks) more than 40 thematic platforms have been formed, covering a wide range of topics: education, culture, science, historical memory, sports, interreligious and inter—civilizational dialogue, the digital environment, media communications and much more.
The World Assembly is timed to coincide with the International Day of Peace, established by the UN General Assembly. This is symbolic: right now, in a rapidly changing world, it is especially important to unite the efforts of all those who realize their responsibility for the shared future.
